18 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,April 6, 2010 ENTERTAINMENT By SAM HANCOCK Georgetown Little Theatre Georgetown Little Theatre Productions Inc. is proud to present Over the River and Through the Woods, by Joe DiPietro, as the final show of our 49th season. Nick (Stuart Bell) is a single ItalianAmerican guy from New Jersey. His parents have retired and moved to Florida, but that doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is his routine until he has to tell them that he's been offered his dream job ... in Seattle. When he breaks the news, it doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. Frank (Bruno Chiovitti), Aida (Dina Dametto), Nunzio (Gary McIlravey) and Emma (Patricia Ball) do their level best including inviting the lovely-- and single-- Caitlin O'Hare (Tara Ross) to Sunday dinner... Auditions were held in January, and the cast has been working with director Andrew Humeniuk on perfecting the art of the Italian family dinner. Humeniuk has been directing for almost 20 years and is glad to be back working with Georgetown Little Theatre, after directing Love, Sex and the IRS to rave reviews and raucous laughter in 2008. Helping the cast with their New Jersey Italian accents is Assistant Director Jennifer Humeniuk, Andrew's partner in life and in theatre. Jennifer has studied and worked in theater in both Canada and the United States. This is a play of family that just about everyone can relate to, though it has an Italian flavour. There is laughter, some tears, tender moments, understanding, hope and future. The audience will leave the theatre feeling good about life. This is not a show to miss. Over the River and Through the Woods opens on April 15, and runs April 15-17, 21-24 (8 p.m. show times) at the John Elliott Theatre, located at 9 Church Street in historic Downtown Georgetown. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Meddling match-making grandparents featured in GLT's spring comedy box office at 905-877-3700. Looking ahead to GLT's 50th year The 2010-2011 will be Georgetown Little Theatre Productions' 50th year of presenting top quality theatre to Halton Hills and area. Georgetown Little Theatre members will be seen participating in various venues around Halton Hills, starting with the Halton Hills Heritage Cultural event in June. Both adult and youth members will be participating at Glen Williams' Canada Day parade. An Open House of our Studio in Stewarttown is planned for September to officially launch the 50th anniversary. The first show of the 50th season will open with a wine and cheese reception at the John Elliott Theatre (our last show in the JET before the library and Culture Centre renovations begin in 2011.) To wrap up the anniversary year a Gala Evening has been planned for May 2011. The celebrations for the 50th are a chance to reflect on our beginnings and how we've become one of Halton Hills' leading cultural groups. It's also an opportunity to look at how we're going to continue to grow and expand over the next 50 years. Visit our website at www. georgetownlittletheatre.ca or call us, 905-877-3422. We always welcome new members who are interested in theatre or just want to have some fun. WELLINGTON-HALTON HILLS MPP TED ARNOTT Web: www.tedarnottmpp.com Phone: 1-800-265-2366
