Mississauga driver facing charges in fatal crash in Acton Continued from pg. 1 injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead by EMS workers. The Independent & Free Press has learned the deceased was Jeffrey Sandles, father of a nine-month-old son, Noah. "Noah changed his (Jeffrey's) life for the better. He was a proud father who couldn't have had nearly enough time with Noah," said Sandles' father Brian, also of Campbellville. "He was just a great person to know." The Erin female, 18, was airlifted to a Toronto area hospital where Monday police reported she was in critical, but stable condition. The driver and a 20-year old Mississauga man who was a passenger in the car, suffered non-life threatening injuries. They fled the scene and were later found by police and taken into custody. One of the Georgetown women in the vehicle suffered a broken pelvis, and the other 20-year-old woman from Georgetown suffered a dislocated pelvis and other injuries. The Halton Police canine unit responded to the collision and police searched the area for the two men who had fled. A few hours after the crash, police found the driver on a street in downtown Acton. He had sustained several non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Georgetown Hospital where he was treated and later released. The other Mississauga man, who also fled, was found in Mississauga with the assistance of Peel Regional Police. He is facing charges unrelated to the collision. Photo by Ted Brown The driver of the Hyundai, Todd McGowan, 21, of Mississauga, has been charged with: · one count of fail to stop at the scene of an accident causing death · four counts of fail to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm · one count dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death · four counts dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm · three counts failing to comply with a probation order · one count possession of a controlled substance Also charged (unrelated to the crash) is passenger, Andrew Buist, 20, of Mississauga. He is charged with breach of probation, breach of undertaking and possession of a controlled substance. Both men are being held pending bail hearings. McGowan's bail hearing was remanded to Thursday, and Buist's was today (Tuesday). Police are still investigating the crash.
