Halton Hills Public Library hosts events to help all to go green It is finally spring! And one sure sign is all the green that is starting to emerge from the grey and brown: the green tips of spring bulbs, the tufts of grass on the lawn, the unfurling leaves of the trees. But there is a lot more to green than gardening. Everywhere we hear about the new ways to "go green" and with Earth Day coming up on April 22nd, your local library is ready to give you all the help you need. On Tuesday April 17, at 7 p.m. in the Gallery at the Georgetown Branch you can learn how to, quite literally, get a little more green into your life by attending a special program called Gardening Outside In. In this program, the Georgetown Horticultural Society's Master Gardener Diana Pooke, along with Margaret Taylor, an accredited floral design judge and teacher with the Toronto Botanical Gardens will be presenting some valuable information about all kinds of plants, for both indoors and out. Many of these plants will then be available at the Georgetown Horticultural Society's Annual Plant Sale, which will be held on Friday May 14th. Coming in May, there will be two program sessions to help you "go" a little more green. Practically Green Solutions is returning to the Halton Hills Public Library to give you the tools you need to green your home. There are two different sessions planned: for these or any other of our library programs and services, please call us at 905-873-2681, or visit our website at www.hhpl.on.ca. And have yourself a green spring! Clare Hanman is a circulation supervisor with Halton Hills Public Library 13 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, April 15, 2010 Clare Hanman The Regional Municipality of Halton www.halton.ca The first session, The Green Clean-- Learn how to Make your House Greener and Cleaner, will explain the toxicity inherent in many common household cleaning products, demonstrate how you can make your own greener cleaning products, and explain the seven sins of "greenwashing" and how you can spot and avoid them-- essential knowledge for any spring cleaning project! This program will be held on May 12 in the Georgetown Branch and on June 3 in the Acton Branch. The second session, Show me the Money - Go Green and Get Paid for It will introduce you to the rebate programs for home owners. In this session you will learn about the retrofits covered under each program, how you can apply, and simple changes you as a homeowner can make to conserve both materials and money! This program will be held on May 26 in the Georgetown Branch only.
