On Monday, 16 volunteers from across Halton were recognized for their efforts at a volunteer breakfast hosted by Halton Region and Volunteer Halton. "Volunteers make a vital contribution to the quality of life for people living in Halton," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "On behalf Halton Regional Council I want to thank all volunteers for the work they do to make Halton a healthy and vibrant community." Becky Kellar, four-time Olympic gold medalist with Canada's Women's Hockey Team, was the keynote speaker at the event. The 2010 Community Volunteer Award recipient for Halton Hills is Felice Butterfield of Limehouse School, Halton District School Board. Cheers to Volunteers Awards recognizes three volunteers from each municipality in Halton (Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville) who are chosen at random and are awarded the honour on behalf of their agency. "Every person who dedicates their time and skills to helping others is special," said Ann Coburn, Director of Volunteer Halton. "Volunteers truly are the heart of a community and it is important that we take time to thank volunteers for all that they do."
