His pro hockey career that included 100 fights and more than 240 stitches in his face vividly demonstrates this. His nose was broken five times and he lost five teeth. His shoulder has been operated on twice, and he has experienced traumainduced epilepsy because of all the blows he took to his head. Known as the enforcer, while playing for the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the World Hockey Association he racked up 361 penalty minutes in 125 games. Butters, a teammate of Gordie Howe will be speaking at Georgetown Alliance Church, 290 Main St. S., at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 16. "I played outside the rules," said Butters, who also played for the Houston Aeros, Edmonton Oilers and New England Whalers in the WHA. "I had to intimidate people or I didn't have a job." It has been over 30 years since he last played as a defenceman with the Minnesota North Stars, but he's still around the rinks-- only now it's with a Bible under his arm. Butters now spends his time as one of the major contributors to the CAHA, the Christian Athletes Hockey Camps, along with Laurie Boschman, another former NHL player. The camps are run throughout Canada, the United States and Europe for children between the ages of 10 and 17. There is no admission charge and all are welcome to hear Butters speak. Formally Bang-O-Rama, the Conklin Supershows will present a traditional array of family rides and attractions, a spectacular three-night fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. and entertainment including free craft tent and petting zoo. Admission: adults/teens: $5; children (age 2-12), $2; under 2, free. (Admission includes free Pancake Breakfast before noon every day). Between 10 a.m. and noon, a food drive is being held for the Salvation Army food bank. A donation of three currentdated food items will be one free admission to the park. A Salvation Army representative will be at the front gate each morning to receive the donation.
