The Healthy Active Living Initiative received provincial recognition as it demonstrated exceptional innovation through the creation of partnerships that enabled the implementation of affordable access to a unique recreation program for students in Halton Hills. The Town of Halton Hills, Halton Board of Education, Georgetown Skating Club, Skate Canada, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Canadian Lifesaving Society, Basketball Ontario, Ayensu's Tae Kwon Do and dance instructor Katie Bradley, formed the Get Active Initiative partnership in the fall of 2009. Harrison students were encouraged to become more physically active and learn the fundamentals that included their choice of skating, swimming, basketball, martial arts and dance offered in a fun environment. The students began participating in a weekly healthy active living initiative that involved a rotation of 210 students in three nine-week programs.
