In Focus, June, 2010 6 Georgetown Candlelight Tributes This year marked the 65th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day) and hundreds of Halton Hills residents commemorated the occasion by participating in the annual Candlelight Tributes on May 6. During the day, more than 1,500 students from 20 local schools walked to Remembrance Park in Georgetown and the Glen Williams Cenotaph where they placed candles and shook hands with veterans. The daytime ceremonies were followed by an evening silent walk to Remembrance Park for the general public. The Candlelight Tributes, now in their eighth year, act as a symbolic passing of the torch of remembrance from one generation to the next. Thank you, veterans.
