Centennial Chargers take first at Ortwein track/field meet Centennial Public School's Chargers from Georgetown captured the overall team championship title recently at the Halton District School Board's Ortwein Track & Field Meet in Burlington. The meet consisted of the biggest schools by population in Halton for grades 6-8. The Chargers took top spot in the intermediate girls' and boys' categories, just nine points ahead of the Stewarttown Middle School Stingers, who won the senior girls' and boys' team pennants. Centennial's intermediate girls' 4x100m relay team, consisting of Stephanie Bowen, Pauline Robson, Lauren Rock and Hailey Buist, set a new Halton record time in one of the heats of 55.40 seconds, then raced to victory in the final in 55.46, 2.52 seconds ahead of the runners-up. McKenzie-Smith Bennett of Acton also sent several athletes to the meet and Alex Denny earned first place in the senior boys' shot put. Both girls are members of the Bearcats girls soccer team, and were chosen for advancing from the Haltons to play at OFSSA. Drum, a sweeper on the team, was cited for her solid defense against St Thomas Aquinas, while Kovacevic, playing mid-field, displayed great control of the mid-field. They are advancing to the Single A division in Sudbury. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Aubryanna Patrick and Charlotte Beauchamp. Both are members of the Rebels Tennis team, playing in the senior ladies doubles at the Haltons. They finished third, making it to the semi-finals, at the Cedar Springs Racquet Club in Burlington. Christ the King Catholic High School Athletes of the Week are Emily West and Daniella Tauskela. Both play on the Jaguars girls rugby team, and were chosen for their contributions against BR. West, a winger, was cited for her great moving of the ball, while Tauskela, a scrum half, was credited with her excellent passing and tackling.
