YOU AND YOUR PET Is Flash the invisible dog? Pet of the Month eyes. Flash was there for so long the Rescue gave up advertising him anymore and he rotted away in his enclosure still with hope in his heart. Flash has been with us for a few weeks now and the pattern is the same NO ONE has shown any interest in him. The Shelter staff and volunteers are already fond of Flash and he gets as much attention as they can muster during their busy days. This deserving boy is housebroken, has his basics, walks well on leash; is friendly towards most dogs, is very good crated and enjoys car rides but By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Flash, the invisible dog!-- it certainly seems that way to Flash who is a three and half-year-old male border-collie/lab cross, weighing in at about 40 lb. Flash has had the misfortune of being judged older than his youthful years because of his looks! Flash was born basic black but it is the silvery patches on his muzzle, toes and tail tip culminating in a large silvery patch on his chest which may be causing his lack of luck in life... at first glance he could be construed as "older" which can be the "kiss of death" to some adopters. Flash, the invisible dog spent part of the FIRST year of his life in a pound, nobody was interested in him; a Rescue took him into their care in May 2007 and they just could not figure out why everyone passed by this little black dog with his strong, hopeful spirit and imploring would prefer a non-cat household. Negatives for some people could be his high energy and need for a lot of exercise-- the product of being incarcerated for all his young life! It is absolute astounding that although he has been constantly rejected this very intelligent, ever eager-to-please boy gives his love freely, adores hugs and attention, likes to give kisses in return for any time spent with him, he so wants to be with you, be touched and enjoy loving attention but is not strident in his demands. Flash is at the top of our most deserving list as it is truly a miracle that he has not given up on ever finding a family of his own but his sheer intelligence and strength of spirit shows that however long it takes he is not giving up hope. Flash would do well with a family who do not work all the time and enjoy an active "outdoor" lifestyle. An adult family or with children 13+ who could share 31 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, June 10, 2010 FLASH in his care and enjoy playing/exercising him would work well. Flash would excel if enrolled in Flyball, Frisbee or Agility classes. Flash would love to tug at your heart so please call 519-833-2287 or email adoptions@uppercredit.com and be prepared to be rewarded by kisses for any time you are able to give him. Sweet Charlotte softly purrs for a family to call her own By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Sweet Charlotte arrived at the Shelter on March 27th this year an attractive smokey-grey/white accents, medium-haired lady of quiet demeanor with amazing eyes! Charlotte's past lives remain her secret but for several months prior to her arrival she had been living as a stray in a garage where she was fed and looked after by a good Samaritan. Charlotte had shown herself to be an affectionate girl who would jump up on their shoulders give nibbles and kisses to their ears obviously grateful at having a temporary home! Vet examination soon found that Charlotte who is approximately four years old desperately needed dental surgery ($800+medication costs which was a necessary large expense for Charlotte to lead a normal life). Charlotte passed all the other tests with flying colours and she is a healthy girl once again, a little skittish when you approach her as she has been prodded with so many needles she needs time to regain faith that you are just offering love and strokes. In fact Charlotte greeted the writer with a soft purr and acted calmly but the caregivers say she is still stressed from her ordeal and they want Charlotte to find a new home quickly so she knows there is more to life than pain and needles! Charlotte would make a lovely addition to a caring, loving, preferably adult, family and every penny spent on her was more than worthwhile, just seeing her enjoy her food is a treat! Charlotte can be viewed by calling 519-833-2287 or email adoptions@uppercredit.com. Can't adopt at the moment but want to help Charlotte? A donation, however small, in her name would help UCHS pay for this surgery and help the next animal in need of special care!
