6 Big Daddy Thursday, June 10, 2010 4EAATTHE-ANOR Proceeds to United Way of Halton Hills Tell Dad to `take a hike!' and you'll join him! By LOIS FRASER Big Daddy Festival Dad in the great outdoors...Is your Dad the kind of Dad, who doesn't care what he's doing, as long as it's outdoors? The Big Daddy Festival has it covered! Here are some options for outdoor activities, all being held on Father's Day, and none of which involve cutting lawns. How about a hike on the Bruce Trail? There are three hikes to choose from: The 10 a.m. hike at the Limehouse Conservation Area (moderately easy), the 11 a.m. Scotsdale Farm hike (easy) and the 1:30 p.m. Hungry Hollow (easy). For directions, see www.bigdaddyfestival.ca. On Father's Day, there will also be a Bruce Trail kiosk at the northern end of Main St. in Georgetown, where you can get more information. Trail maps and directions will be provided and you can easily get to the trail head from Georgetown in no more than 15 minutes. Find out why Georgetown's nickname has been Hungry Hollow for years. Come and see why Scotsdale Farm, near Ballinafad, is a sought after site for shooting movies. Come and see why all the city folk drive out here to see what is right in our backyard. If you have time to register in advance, please call trailblazer Maureen Smith (905-873-9757). If you come on the spur of the moment, that's okay too. Please look in the Bruce Trail tab for a hike to the Lime Kilns, or find out more from the Limehouse Kiln Society www.limehousekilns.ca. If you're from out of town, Limehouse is part Acton, part Georgetown and 100% unique. On Sunday morning, the Acton Rotary Dad and Me Fishing Derby is being held 7-11 a.m. on Fairy Lake in Prospect Park in Acton. This is an Acton tradition and Herb Dodds has an Store Hours Mon - Wed 10-6 Thurs - Fri 10 -8 Sat 10 - 5 Saturday, June 26th 2010 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM in the Village of Limehouse Y !-0- Let Your Senses Comes Alive! · Wander the gardens · Relax with a cup of tea · Nature walk · Demonstrations on creating lush planters · Enjoy the Musicians · Bid at the Silent Auction · View the conservatory · Gaze at the koi · Sip on some cool refreshments · Treat yourself to strawberry shortcake · Outdoor living display · Artists painting on site · European casual fashion show Lewis Fleming, 4, of Georgetown displays his expertise with the hula hoop at the corner of Main and Mill Streets during the 2009 Festival on Main. The first is a casting contest for kids and Dads. We're not sure if they'll be aiming for the longest cast or trying to hit a hoola hoop in the lake, but you know that men like to compete, so who cares? It's a contest! At 10 a.m., there will be a demonstration by members of the Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club on how to tie flies. At the same time, there will also be a fly casting demonstration and Dads will get a chance to try their hand at fly fishing. Members of the Greg Clarke Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be there to lead the demonstration. Come and celebrate the significant man in your life, whether he's your Dad or simply feels like Dad to you. All you Outdoor Dads remember: there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad dressers.
