2 Parenting Tuesday, June 22, 2010 Halton Hills School of Dance offers summer camp classes By ANDREA LEFEBVRE Advertising Features Writer Thanks to televised dance competitions like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars, kids are exposed to a wide variety of different forms of dance. For many parents, all these dance styles lead to one big question: what type will my kid like? Kim Greco, the new owner of the Halton Hills School of Dance, has the answer to that question: summer camp. This summer, the school will be hosting two oneweek camp programs for kids aged 4 to 6, 7 to 10 and 11 to 13. At the camp, dancers will be introduced to a little bit of everything, including ballet, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre. "They explore different dance styles and decide what they're really keen on," says Greco, who officially takes ownership of the school on July 1. "It gives them direction for when they sign up for classes in September." In the fall, Greco plans to introduce a few new classes, including Mom and Tot tap and movement classes, as well as new programs for adults and young students. She also wants to have her dancers perform at local events and festivals. "The Halton Hills School of Dance has been around for 30 years. It's well established," says Greco, who ran a dance studio in Sault Ste. Marie for 19 years before moving to southern Ontario. "I hope to inject some new ideas and new energy while keeping the foundation the same."
