SPORTS & LEISURE Four Blue Fins qualify for Age Group nationals It's been a busy month in the pool for the Halton Hills Blue Fins' Swim Club and it's not over yet as four team members are headed for the national championships in a couple of weeks. Matt Fox, 12, along with 14-year-olds Kyle Haas and Mitchell Krafczek and 16-yearold Karl Massey are headed for the Canadian Age Group Championships July 21-26 at Winnipeg's Pan American Games Pool thanks in part to their efforts at recent Ontario meets. As a club, the Blue Fins enjoyed their best standing ever at the Swim Ontario Long Course Championships in Ottawa, placing 26th overall out of 63 teams attending. Ten local club members qualified and another Blue Fins' record was set for the number of individual medals garnered at the competition, headed up by Fox's silver and three bronze, a silver from Tessa Cieplucha and two third-place results for Haas. Accolades also went to Blue Fins' head coach Mike Thompson, who has been chosen to guide the Swim Ontario Central Region team at the Ontario Summer Games, to be held in Sudbury Aug. 11-13. Halton Hills athletes accounted for several top-10 finishes at the Etobicoke Olympium for the Central Region Long Course Championships: Keri-Lyn Copeland, 12-- 1st 100m free, 400m free, 3rd 50m free, 6th 100m back, 6th 200m back Krafczek-- 2nd 400m free, 3rd 50m free, 4th 100m free, 5th 200m free, 5th 800m free Veronica Fong, 11-- 6th 100m free, 7th 800m free, 10th 50m free, 100m breaststroke Massey, 16-- 8th 800m free Emma Fender, 11-- 9th 50m free Quinn Jaggard, 12-- 10th 100m free Age Group International was also held at the Olympium, attracting the top swimmers from across Ontario, and the Blue Fins had more provincial qualifiers.
