Hospital Foundation receives record bequest of $300,000 This spring Georgetown Hospital Foundation received its largest single donation ever-- a bequest of $300,000 from Vera Isobel Wallace. The funding will be used by the Foundation to improve patient care at Georgetown Hospital through the establishment of the Brigadier F.C. Wallace and Vera Isobel Wallace Fund. "To have left such a large bequest to us really demonstrates the positive impact the Georgetown Hospital had on Mrs. Wallace," said K.C. Carruthers, Executive Director, Georgetown Hospital Foundation. "It was an unexpected gift, but one that will help develop our patient care services here at Georgetown Hospital and for that we can only be thankful." Wallace was born just outside of Guelph. Her father, Dr. James H. King, was a family doctor in the 1920s and 30s who travelled by horse and buggy to see his patients, many who were farmers. In those days before universal medical care, Dr. King often accepted produce in return for his care, or even provided care for free in cases where a family could not compensate him. "I think this really made an impression on Vera," recalls Paul Marshall, Vera's nephew. "She was a country girl who remembered the compassion of her father, a `horse and buggy doctor' with a generous spirit." She married Brigadier F.C. It results when the sound amplification "leaks" out from around the seal in the ear resulting in re-amplification of sound. It may be a result of a change in the shape of the ear canal often due to weight loss. A new ear impression will easily solve this issue.
