Murden impresses at inline tourney By EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Canada didn't win a medal at the recent World InLine Hockey Junior Men's Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany, but Georgetown's Robbie Murden ended up being one of the top scorers in the 12country tournament. The 18-year-old Christ the King Secondary School graduate finished in a tie for second in scoring in the five-game preliminary round with three goals and 11 assists, then added seven more points in the playoff round as the Canadians placed fifth overall by defeating Colombia in their final game. Murden, who won a provincial inline championship a couple of years ago with the Georgetown Spitfires, was selected thanks to his play with the Brampton Jr. A Radicals' inline club. He also spent this past winter with the Tier II Jr. A Villanova Knights, collecting six goals and six assists in 38 games. At the world championships earlier this month, Canada lost to France 6-2, Italy 6-5 and the U.S. 5-2, but qualified for the quarterfinals with victories over Mexico, 11-1 and Namibia 10-5. Tournament favourites Czech Republic humbled the Canucks in the quarters with a 12-0 rout and went on to beat the U.S. 6-2 in the final. "The Czechs had four or five players who played on the world junior team and four of them were drafted into the NHL, so they were a pretty amazing team," noted Murden, who usually lines up as a forward on the ice but was a defender in the 4-on-4 inline tourney. "Overall, it was a great experience, and because of my age I can go back again next year."
