8 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,August 3, 2010 By Cory Soal R.H.A.D. . . . Lend Me Your Ears Tooth Chatter Eco-fees: Who were the Liberals kidding? When a government no longer respects the people it governs, it's only a matter of time before the people return the favour. Case in point: so-called "ecofees" on an unknown number of everyday products, sneakingly timed to kick in on Canada Day, the same day as the HST. People in Wellington-Halton Hills were not impressed. A great many spoke up, as did people across the province. Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak called on the government to scrap the "eco-tax," as he called it, and committed to doing so if he becomes premier. In response, the Minister of the Environment beat a hasty retreat on the issue on July 20, and now promises a 90-day consultation. Who do the McGuinty Liberals think they're kidding? ··· Seventy years ago this very summer, tyranny was knocked from the skies and freedom ascended. At the conclusion of the Battle of Britain, Prime Minister Winston Churchill paid eloquent tribute to the Royal Air Force, in words that will ring forever in the English language: COUNSELLING THE NEW HEARING AID USER The following few tips, if followed correctly, will prolong the benefits and enjoyment of better hearing: ·Do not get the hearing aid wet ·Do not leave the instrument where it is too hot or cold ·Try not to drop the hearing aid ·Do not spray cleaning solution or hair spray on the instrument ·Keep the instrument and batteries out of the reach of small children and especially pets If any of the above problems do occur, please don't hesitate to call... The Georgetown If you are a denture wearer, you will experience some kind of discomfort during the life of your dentures. Lower dentures usually cause more trouble than uppers. Because bottom dentures have little suction to hold them in place, they are more likely to move around, therefore causing various forms of discomfort. Also, poor ridges cause dentures to move easily, because the denture has little to hold onto for stability. The tongue constantly moving as you talk and chew also interferes with the lower dentures. Because of all these factors that effect the function of the lower dentures, most people do have trouble at some point. In fact, many people don't wear their lowers. They divorce them from their upper denture mates by loosing them in the most unlikely places! Some seek refuge in the bottom drawers, bottom of the bed, under the bed, amongst lipsticks and combs in ladies' handbags, lunch pails, back pockets, and if they get lucky, they are left forever soaking in a denture bath or cup of water! SOLUTIONS There are different techniques that can be used to improve the fit of the lower denture, such as a soft-liner insert. This is a permanent liner that will stay soft and give added comfort and stability. For more information, contact our office. We specialize in problem lower dentures. Consultations are free at our office. Call us for an appointment today. LOWER DENTURES Ted Arnott "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few," he said. Michael Korda has written a new, stirring and accessible account of the Battle of Britain entitled With Wings Like Eagles. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a better understanding of the slender thread on which democracy was held in 1940, and the extraordinary men and women whose courage took flight to save it. ··· Even though it's summertime, the staff and volunteers of Halton Food for Thought are gearing up for September, and preparing for "back to school." Council recently called upon the Province to assist municipalities with the costs of Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearings that may result from Places to Grow. OMB hearings can be costly exercises, and local taxpayers may be forced to foot the bill unless the Province recognizes its responsibility to help. It's a reasonable suggestion, especially given the fact that Places to Grow is a provincial policy initiative which many municipalities wanted no part of.
