"It's a generous donation from the Georgetown Slo-Pitch League to get this (the lighting project) moving," said Mayor Rick Bonnette at the July council meeting. He noted that two years ago the group committed $100,000 to kickstart the building of ball diamonds at the Sports Park, and, "and now we need to do the lights and they have come to the table again." The mayor commended the group's perseverance after being denied last year for the lighting grant. Light Up the Hills Festival will receive $21,500 over one year to enhance its winter light showcase during the month of December. "Light up the Hills is very excited and extremely grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for these funds and their endorsement of our endeavors," said chair Gerry Kentner. "This boost will help us to illuminate the tree in Acton this year as well as support our purchase of a new display for our focus park in Georgetown at Dominion Gardens. This will also assist in covering some of our annual costs of insurance, maintaining displays and adding to the existing power in the GERRY park." KENTNER Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Georgetown Little Theatre will get $20,200 over one year to help pay for marketing activities of its special birthday, plus fund various projects at the GLT Studio. "Georgetown Little Theatre Productions (GLT) is delighted to be the recipient of a $20,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation... these funds will help us with our ongoing work to mount top level shows for audiences of all ages," said Virginia Bancur, president of GLT. "Over the next year, the theatre company will be using these funds to buy new equipment for the stage and create an innovative new set of marketing strategies. Everyone at the Georgetown Little Theatre Productions is looking forward to an exciting new chapter in our history and wish to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its support," added Bancur. Halton Hills Concert Band will get $15,000 over one year to purchase musical equipment that will enhance the development of this new community band and improve the quality of its performances. Some of the other Halton groups receiving cash were: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton , $160,000 over three years to hire a program director and Hope Place Centres, $50,000 over one year to purchase vans to enable women in residential treatment for addictions to attend health-related activities and engage more fully in volunteer and community activities in North Halton, where public transportation is limited.
