Instead of going home after school, he would go to his family's fruit market and garden centre, located on Guelph Street. "I started at the fruit market after school because both my mom and dad were there working. I couldn't stay home alone," Andrea says. "I've been involved in the business since I was very young." Andrea's parents, Joe and Maria, opened the fruit market and garden centre in 1972. Four years ago, Andrea decided to focus on the gardening side of the business and transformed it into Georgetown Garden Centre after Joe retired - sort of. "I'm still making him work," Andrea says with a laugh. The garden centre offers quality gardening and vegetable plants, as well as hanging baskets, soils, fertilizers, seeds and houseplants. Pumpkins are available in the fall and the centre has poinsettias and Christmas trees in the winter. With spring officially here and summer right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get gardening. "Spring is my favourite," Andrea says. "After a long winter, everybody gets excited to see the warm weather and to add colour in their gardens."
