Source of the Song to hold summer concert The Source of the Song acoustic songwriter's series is holding its first-ever summertime concert. Source of the Song 16 will take place on Saturday (Aug. 21), 2-5 p.m. in the Glen Williams Town Hall, featuring a stellar lineup of roots and blues songwriters: hit songwriter, Dean McTaggart, Nashville bluesman and songwriter Ron LaSalle, and Winnipeg folk artist, JD Edwards. McTaggart is a hit songwriter for artists such as Amanda Marshall (Dark Horse, Birmingham, Last Exit to Eden, Trust Me This Is Love), as well as Anne Murray, Wynonna, Johnny Reid (The Blues Is Winnin), and even The Guess Who. McTaggart's new CD, Drop the Needle In The Groove has just been released. Blues artist and songwriter Ron LaSalle is a longtime road warrior, touring extensively with his band The East Side Rockers, garnering film songwriting credits, and still finding time for songwriting in Nashville and New York. Often compared with Van Morrison, Bob Seger or Tom Waits, LaSalle produces a gritty roots-rock sound that is steeped in soul and blues, with a little frosting of dust from a cross-roads somewhere. Edwards (The JD Edwards Band) is a soulful singer-songwriter, passing through on a tour from his Winnipeg home. With his roots in jazz and a rising reputation in Canada's folk community, Edwards is a soulful performer who has attracted comparisons with Ben Harper. Previous shows have sold out, said host and cofounder Bruce Madole, so extra seating has been made available for this show. "Even given that it's our first-ever show during the summer months, we're expecting a full house again," said Madole. "The whole Source of the Song series has always been about that special `Zing' moment that happens when a listening audience encounters a great song performed by the person who wrote it. There's still no other thrill like it, except, maybe, the extra thrill you might get when you can say about a hit song, `We heard it the very first time it was played, in Glen Williams.' That's a part of the magic of this series, for sure." For information or ticket orders, call 905-459-9753 or email brucemadole@sympatico.ca. Advance tickets ($15) are available at the Williams Mill Art Gallery. On the day of the show, tickets will be $18 at the door. 11 Be Boat Smart. There are many rules to follow when boating or driving, but there is one rule that's the same whether you're on land or at sea--Don't Drink & Drive! Many boating accidents occur when the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Your day on the water can be fun and enjoyable if you stay sober and in control of your vessel.
