26 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, September 9, 2010 HILLSVIEW-NEWS FROM THE SENIORS CENTRES Georgetown Seniors Centre By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre Well the kids are back to school for a new beginning and we at the Centre are in for the beginning of a new fall/ winter season. Open House is the week September 13 to 17. Events planned for your enjoyment that week are listed in the recent Sept/Oct. HillsView. Come out, take part in a demo. If there is sufficient interest in a new program, it is likely to become part of our schedule. Make sure you attend the Open House BBQ on the Tuesday, Sept 14. Your favourite hot dogs and corn-on-the-cob are the fare being offered for a nominal price. I will be at my travel desk on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Drop by and take a look at the exciting trips for the Day Trippers coming up beginning in January 2011. While you're there try a white chocolate macadamia cookie. For those new and returning members, who are interested in any Active Living Program, a reminder that sign up time is now. Insufficient numbers will mean cancellation of the class. Last call for the Mom2Mom sale of children's clothes and toys on Saturday, Sept. 11 beginning at 8 a.m. Tables still available for rent. Call Terri at 905-877-6444. Starting in October the "Toonie" Movie Fridays will be held twice a month, the second and last Friday. The cost of a Toonie will still get you popcorn, drink and movie. Can you beat that deal? If you have a movie you would like to see tell the girls in the office and they will try to oblige. On Tuesday, Sept. 21 sandwiches will again be on sale. Make Tuesdays Lunch Day at the Centre. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Open House. This is your Centre. It depends on volunteers and participants. Acton Seniors Centre By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre The latest copies of the Hillview newsletters are at the front desk, and there are a few at the Acton Library, if that is a more convenient pickup spot for you. Many people do not realize that you can be as young as 55+ to be eligible to join the Georgetown and Acton Seniors Centre. There will be lots of exciting, new programs to try at next week's Open House, and what is even better, they are free during Open House. Tickets are still available for the Open House dinner and for the golf. The dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 15 has a Mexican theme, so dig out the sombreros and get ready for a fun evening. The Town offers some great opportunities for keeping our bodies healthy and strong, and if you are a Centre mem- ber you receive a discount on some of the programs offered. The Centre also offers a variety of ways to keep the mind and body active, whether by exercise, hiking, playing cards, crafts or enjoying social evenings, Friday lunches and bingo. We also offer many day trips to shows, dinner theatre and various places of interest. If you are 55+ and have a couple of hours to spare and are looking for something worthwhile and challenging, please consider either joining a committee or offering to work at the front desk for four hours every two weeks. Both Centre are always looking for volunteers and offer great opportunities. If you were born in either July and August, you should have received an invitation to attend the Birthday Tea on Tuesday, Sept. 14. If for some reason you didn't, please call Pauline Barlow. You are encouraged to bring a guest. Georgetown Alexander Trenton, DD, F.C.A.D. (A) Creating Confident Smiles Since 1982!
