Nominations for the election closed last Friday and Town clerk Suzanne Jones certified all nominations and acclamations yesterday (Monday). There were no challengers to Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette who will serve a third term as mayor. Bonnette's acclamation marks the first time in town history (since regional government was installed in 1974) that there will be no race for the mayor's chair. Other incumbent Halton Hills councillors to get acclamations were the ones who serve Acton. Wards 1&2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville and Ward 1 Councillors Mike O'Leary and Jon Hurst will return to council without having to run a campaign. Both French language school board trustee positions were also uncontested. Micheline Wylde of Hamilton returns as the Conseil Scolaire TUESDAY, September 14, 2010 Mayor earns first acclamation Election race is on as 21 candidates file de District du Centre-Sud-Quest representative while Dominique Janssens of Woodbridge will serve as the Centre-Sud trustee. While Acton appeared to have little stomach for election races the same couldn't be said in Georgetown where four races will be fought, including the largely rural Ward 2. There will also be a race for the Halton Region chair seat as incumbent chair Gary Carr is being challenged by Oakville resident Joseph Kus. The battle for the Halton District School Board Halton Hills trustee position shapes up to be an interesting race as incumbents Gillian Tuck Kutarna and Gerry Ockenden will vie for the one seat available along with newcomer Mandy Kerfoot. The HDSB reduced Halton Hills' representation on the board from two seats to one earlier this year based on a region-wide population formula.
