8 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, September 30, 2010 THE PERFECT EVENT AWAITS YOU AT Open houses planned for fire halls With the two new "state of the art" Halton Hills fire stations up and running, the public will have the chance to check them out during Fire Prevention Week. An open house will be held Sunday, Oct. 3 at the station at 53 Maple Ave. from 1 to 4 p.m. to kick-off Fire Prevention Week that runs through Oct. 9. A variety of events have been planned including station tours, demonstrations and auto extraction, haz-mat and tactical rescue demonstrations and displays. Visitors will be able to get interactive with fire extinguisher training and the popular Fire Safety House. Sparky the Fire Dog and Freddie the Fire Truck will both be on hand. There will be hot dogs and refreshments. Monday Oct. 4 through Thursday Oct. 7 tours of both the Maple Ave. and Headquarters station at 14007 10 Sideroad will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Also during the week Grade 4 teachers from area schools have been invited to schedule a station visit for their students. "This will be an excellent opportunity for our children to experience and interact with our firefighters, while at the same time receiving valuable safety information from our very successful Risk Watch program," said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. SEAC is an advisory body and makes recommendations to the Board concerning the establishment and development of special education programs and services.
