12 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,October 5, 2010 ENTERTAINMENT GBC plans varied program for 2010-11 season By CAROLE LUSBY Georgetown Bach Chorale Under the music direction of Ron Greidanus, the Georgetown Bach Chorale offers in its 12th season, a unique combination of choral, orchestral, and solo works performed in the beautiful churches or the intimate setting of a private home. This auditioned ensemble of 20 choristers specializes in Baroque repertoire accompanied by musicians playing period instruments but also explores music from other eras. The start of the 2010-11 season is an exquisite multi-course meal featuring a program of jazz classics with solo singers, vocal quartets and jazz trio on Friday, Oct. 22 and Saturday, Oct. 23. Autumn Leaves, Autumn Feast and Autumn Memories will be held in the intimate setting of Greidanus's own home, 157 Main St. S. in Georgetown. November brings a full musical and spiritual experience in its annual Advent Concert in St. Elias Church on Heritage Rd. on Friday, Nov. 19. The awe-inspiring hand-painted icons, coupled with incense and candlelight, create the ideal ambiance for works such as Charpentier's haunting Missa Assumpta Est Maria and Vivaldi's jubilant Gloria. Chansons de Noel is the title for the ever-popular Christmas soiree at 157 Main Street for three nights, Dec. 1719. Guests will also have the unique pleasure of listening and watching a viola da gambe being played by baroque specialist, Felix Deak. February finds us in the Croatian Church for the Heart of Winter on February 26. Warm yourself on a dark winter evening with provocative works such as Arvo Part's I am the True Vine, interspersed with shorter compositions by Maurice Durufle, Eleanor Daly, John Tavener, and Healey Willan. The Bach Chorale will be joined by local high school musicians for a special presentation of Bruckner's Mass in E Minor. The Gypsy is an in-house concert on March 19 with Ron Greidanus and violinist Edwin Huizinga performing Cesar Franke's monumental Sonata in A Major for piano and violin. A lavish reception will follow. The season concludes on Sunday, April 10 with Bach's Mass in B Minor when the Chorale will be first community choir to perform in the brand new Holy Cross Church.
