Quattro Books, a Toronto based publisher that reflects the unique cultural character and dynamism of Canada, pride themselves as being the home of the novella. Quattro specializes in publishing the works of established Canadian writers experimenting with new forms, as well as writers whose work is strong, yet previously unpublished. For the Fall 2010 publishing season, Quattro is launching four new novellas and two books of poetry. Since one of those books is by local writer, Reinhard Filter, Quattro will sponsor a reading by three Quattro authors in Glen Williams. During the book launch, Filter will read from his latest work, Retina Green, a novella that is best described as darkly humorous and poetically surreal. Retina Green explores what happens when you ignore your conscience and play along in a game you know is rigged. This novella is a co-winner of the 2010 Ken Klonsky Novella Contest sponsored by Quattro Books every year for Canadian writers. Filter has published poetry and short stories in a variety of literary magazines across Canada, and Retina Green is his first work of longer fiction. Another Quattro author, Amela Marin, will also give a reading from her latest book, The Sea. Marin is a writer and translator living in Toronto, where she moved from Sarajevo, Bosnia. She has translated plays, essays and poetry, and written essays and short stories. Her work has appeared REINHARD FILTER in many magazines and journals, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio and Radio Netherlands. The third Quattro author participating in the reading, poet Domenico Capilongo, will read from his most recent book of poetry, hold the note. Capilongo lives with his family in Toronto, where he teaches alternative education and karate. His poetry has appeared in journals across Canada, and his first book of poetry, I thought elvis was italian, came out in 2008. The book launch and readings will begin at 2 p.m. in the Glen Williams Town Hall, 1 Prince St. Everyone is invited to come out to meet the authors, and to be introduced to Quattro Books while enjoying some leading edge literature.
