St. Alban's presents the Marion Singers The Marion Singers perform in concert on Saturday, Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m. at St. Alban's Church, 537 Main St., Glen Williams. Cost: $20 for adults; $10 for students w/ ID; $15 for seniors (65+). Call the church office, 905-877-8323. The Marion Singers first introduced their unique vocal sound to an audience in 1992 when they gathered as friends to sing at the wedding of one of their members, Marion Thompson. They decided they liked the gig, and ever since then these accomplished vocalists have been donating their talents for the benefit of humanitarian causes and non-profit organizations in monthly concerts throughout the GTA. The Marion Singers is a 16-voice ensemble whose concerts include a mixed repertoire of music styles including classic sacred pieces from composers such as Mendelssohn, Viadanna, and Tallis, as well as modern composers including Tavener, Lauridsen and Busto. They perform a wide range of fun secular music as well from a repertoire that includes old Canadiana, folk music from the British Isles and songs by Billy Joel and the Beatles. The intimate atmosphere they create in concert with close harmonies, always sung a capella (without instruments), is a treat for every music-lover. Reception with refreshments to follow in the parish hall. 15 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 CARDS OF THANKS THE Lyons family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the many friends and family who sent expressions of sympathy, floral tributes and generously supported charities at the time of John's passing.
