Memorial Arena While its days may be numbered, the venerable old building located at 42 Mill Street was first built as an outdoor ice rink in 1922, but was later enclosed. It has not undergone any major revitalization since its original construction and it has surpassed the normal life expectancy of an ice rink by more than 36 years. While the Town's Arena Task Force looks for solutions to the ice shortage problem, Memorial Arena continues to operate and allow youngsters to live out their hockey fantasies as their parents and grandparents did before them. Located at Bower Avenue and Willow Street the building housed the town council and constabulary in the downstairs and featured a great hall and stage upstairs. In 1977 it was recommended the building be torn down but a grassroots campaign began and this past year the first phase of renovations were completed. File photo
