Halton Hills to floor Jr. C lacrosse team next season By EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Not content with ruling the ranks of Jr. B lacrosse in this province, the Halton Hills Bulldogs have received approval to start up a Jr. C team for the 2011 season. At the Ontario Lacrosse Association annual general meeting in Niagara Falls last weekend, Halton Hills was one of several centres that were granted Jr. C franchises to complement their existing Jr. B clubs, including the Bulldogs' chief rivals in Mimico. It's expected that the Jr. C Bulldogs will be based out of Acton and play most of their home games on Sunday evenings in the OLA Central Division alongside teams from Clarington, Whitby, Peterborough, Mimico and Huntsville. The establishment of the Jr. C team here is a joint venture between the 2009 Founders Cup-winning Jr. B Bulldogs' organization and the Halton Hills Minor Lacrosse Association. "With the success we've had with the Jr. Bs over the last few years, it became tough for a lot of talented local kids to crack the roster, so the better option was to keep our homegrown players here in Halton Hills," said Jr. B Bulldogs' head coach Blaine McCauley, who is also president of the HHMLA. "A lot of these kids don't want to travel elsewhere to play and we've had some quality intermediate teams that can compete at the junior level, so we'll see what direction this goes. Obviously we're going to use the model of the Jr. B team." McCauley added that prospective coaches would be interviewed soon. 25 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, November 11, 2010 Georgetown Sports Unlimited Beavers' netminder Doug Handy blanked the Scorecards 2-0 during their preliminary-round game last Saturday at the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council's Oldtimers' Tournament.
