Nominations being accepted for 2011 Arts Alive Awards The Halton Hills Cultural Round Table is soliciting nominations for the 2011 Arts Alive Awards celebrating philanthropy, volunteerism and excellence in the arts community. Awarded every five years since 1991, the award categories are: · The Ralph Ursel Award for Volunteerism recognizes an individual who has volunteered extensively in artistic activities. This award is named after the late Ralph Ursel, who was an active volunteer in the community for many years. · The Kenneth R. Harrison Award for Youth Mentorship is named after the former Georgetown music teacher and choir leader. The recipient of this award works extensively with Halton Hills youth and acts as a mentor for the artistic endeavours of our local youth. · The Arts Alive Award for Patron of the Arts recognizes a company or individual who supports a variety of artistic activities through their continued financial support. · The Arts Alive Award for Visual Arts is for a visual artist who has displayed excellence in their art with special consideration given to someone who also volunteers in the arts community. · The Arts Alive Award for Performing Arts honours a performer-- an actor, singer, dancer or entertainer who has brought joy to local audiences over the years. The deadline for nominations is Monday, November 22. The awards will be presented during the Halton Hills Cultural Symposium at the Acton Town Hall in January. Councillor Jane Fogal, a member of the Cultural Round Table committee, is pleased to see the Round Table continuing this tradition after the original Arts Alive group disbanded in 2007.
