Susan Pippy Susan Pippy has been working in clay and paper mache for 26 years. Originally introduced to the craft of making papier mâché in a flower shop in Calgary, Pippy later learned how to create sculpture in clay, while attending the Banff School of Fine Art. Over the years she has taken on several commissions, the most recent decorating a new baby's room in a jungle theme. The walls of the room were decorated in various jungle animals-- giraffe's hippos, snakes, and all sorts of creatures. She also has created a `fish' theme in a dentists' office, but claims her zebra at home is the all-time favourite piece she has created in papier mâché. She enjoys giving her creatures human qualities, and in doing so, she hopes to bring them into our world where people might view them as fellow citizens of the planet. She was born in England and one of her best childhood "toys" was a loom built by her father as a Christmas gift. Since 1968 she has made her home in Canada and has also lived in Utah and California. Graduating from the Georgian College Weaving Program with honours, she has continued to weave a wide variety of items, both practical and aesthetic in nature. A member of both the Ontario Handweavers and Spinners and the Georgetown Heritage Handweavers and Spinners Guild, she has participated in many shows and conferences. Margaret has worked in all sorts of fibres, including acrylic and mohair. She does a great deal of off-loom weaving, and loves to make brilliant-coloured scarves for Christmas. Email: margsearle@sympatico.ca June Snyder Being one of the early members of the group, June Snyder has been producing exciting sculptures, artifacts and ornaments in stained glass for more than 15 years. "A friend of mine did stained glass, and got me started," said Snyder. "Before I knew it, I was making pieces for craft shows and made gifts to give to friends and family." Her work is quite diversified, as she creates everything from plaques to sun catchers and many freestanding items. They all share one quality-- she is in love with colour. Most recently, she has been trying new glass and textures for her work, and is producing a line of freestanding butterflies. In the past Snyder's projects have been produced for several other stores and now is very pleased to present her free standing creations, window hangings and candle holders at the Artisans' Attic. Susan Little For more then 17 years, Susan Little has been creating pictures with watercolours. "I blame my brother," jokes Little. "He gave me a small watercolour kit as a gift, and I couldn't make it work-- so I had to go out and get bigger and better." An artist all her life, Little has been deeply involved, carrying on a love affair with form and colour, taking ordinary subjects and injecting a vibrancy into them. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design she has enjoyed a unique career in the arts, including editorial and promotional magazine art direction, graphic design and children's book illustration. Now she has turned her talents to painting in watercolours, where she combines her love of nature and her illustrative graphic design techniques to create wonderfully colourful and bold landscapes. Lately, she's been working on a fantasy line, creating ornate images of tropical fish and flowers with a fantasy feel to them. Visit www.susanlittle.com Mary Meredith Mary Meredith has the patience of Job. Working with tiny glass beads, semiprecious stones, freshwater pearls, crystals, and both new and vintage glass, she weaves them into amazing works of jewelry art. She uses fine Japanese beads, and sets them with sterling silver, 14 kt gold, copper, pewter and silk to create contemporary and classic jewelry designs. A 12-year member of the group, Meredith tells how she started out teaching herself the craft, through reading books, but only as a hobby. But soon after creating jewelry for friends and family, she found herself receiving more commissions and eventually started expanding her creations, still making one-of-a-kind jewelry, but also creating unique items like little wooden boxes decorated with tiny beads. "Working with beads is a tactile and meditative process," says Meredith. "It is the abundance of colours and shapes, the inherent beauty of these materials which continue to inspire me."
