8 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, November 25, 2010 55 th Huttonville Lions Craft & Antique Show Town set to `light up' Dec. 1 Halton Hills will dazzle with seasonal colours starting Wednesday (Dec. 1) when Light Up the Hills (LUTH) hosts its third annual Ignition Night. This year, the volunteer citizens' group has selected two locations to decorate with lights-- in Dominion Gardens Park surrounding the Tree of Hope, and new this year, a second Tree of Hope in the Acton Sports Park, beside the Acton Arena & Community Centre. The celebrations begin in both Acton and Georgetown with "ignition" at 7 p.m., followed by school choirs, bands, free hot chocolate and cookies and of course, Santa Claus. Parking will be available at Christ the King High School and the Acton Arena parking lots. "Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the flick of the switch to create the magical, wonderland of lights," invited LUTH spokesperson Marilyn Serjeantson. Last year the Tree of Hope was professionally decorated with more than 2,000 LED lights and another 1,000 lights are needed to cover the growing tree this year. Approximately 150 other trees in the Dominion Gardens will be electrified with 25,000 bulbs to create a winter wonderland of lights at the corner of Guelph St. and Maple Ave. that will continue nightly throughout the month of December, she said. In Acton, 2,000 LED bulbs will make that Tree of Hope sparkle. LUTH is urging local residents to become part of the seasonal celebration by completing their house lights and decorations this weekend, and turning them on nightly beginning Wednesday. "That just adds to the festivities in our community," said Serjeantson. Throughout November, LUTH volunteers have had a presence at community events and locations asking for donations. "It takes lots of cash to make this event happen," said Serjeantson. "Behind the scenes, a dedicated crew has been busy raising the funds and contacting volunteers to prepare for the grand start. This year we have been honoured with some support from the Trillium Foundation." Residents can help by making a donation or buy five light bulbs for $5 or purchase Festive cards, 10 cards for $15. Go online to www.lightupthehills.com. This weekend look for LUTH booths at the Georgetown Market Place mall, Canadian Tire and at the Acton Seniors Centre's Christmas bazaar (Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Light Up the Hills's long-range plan is to plant and decorate a Tree of Hope in all Halton Hills's hamlets and settlement areas. Sat. Nov. 27, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm Sun.
