Approximately 320 students from Halton Hills's five schools attended on Nov. 18, in the event co-chaired by Carol Hryhorsky, principal of St. Catherine of Alexandria School in Georgetown. "The Catholic Leadership Youth Rally Days focused on developing our young leaders to be active witnesses of the Gospel and equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to do so," said Lorrie Naar, Superintendent of Education, School Services, Halton Catholic District School Board. "Through interactive activities, lively speakers, prayer, and the celebration of Mass, our students will gain new insight into leadership and see it from the perspective of their Catholic faith." The theme of this year's Youth Rallies is "Two Hearts". The two hearts are the Immaculate Heart of Mary and The Sacred Heart of Jesus. A teaching preparation kit distributed to schools prior to the rallies focused on renewing the participants' understanding of the Apostles Creed. Students explored what the Apostles Creed means to them as the essence and proclamation of the Catholic Christian faith. The keynote speaker was Chris Stefanick, a well known speaker on Catholic leadership, the sacraments and chastity. He has also co-written a book called Do I Have to Go?. Gregory Litster, a Grade 8 Student, St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic School said, "I really loved going to the Grade 8 Youth Rally. It was a lot of fun and I'm really glad I had the opportunity to go. The guest speaker Chris Stefanick was great, the music was awesome and I had a wonderful time with the rest of the Grade 8's at Mary Mother of God Church." Fellow St. Catherine student, Ellyssa Brooks agreed. "I thought the Youth Rally was very inspiring. It allowed young students to come together to show their support and love for Jesus," she said. "Chris Stefanik was extremely inspiring in his speech because he connected to us kids in a fun way. This rally gathered us together to sing songs and celebrate God in a fun way. It really opened our eyes to how important it is to have God in your life."
