28 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, November 25, 2010 We're very proud to announce Tim Walinga's graduation from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy). Confucius say... Acton Seniors Centre prepares for Saturday's fundraising bazaar By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Yesterday (Wednesday), members helped to decorate the Christmas tree. Luckily our tree is on wheels, so we can decorate it in the community hall where there is lots of space. In the morning Wendy and Michelle decorated the Centre-- our Centre always looks very welcoming once it is decorated. It will make the Centre feel cozy when we are open for the second year between Christmas and New Year. I know Pauline is very excited with her Christmas Mingle and Chat. She is hoping that if you have extra Christmas goodies at home you will bring them in to share, while you reminisce about your favourite Christmas memories. I will tell you more about this later. There is a signup sheet for help at the Bazaar (Nov. 27) plus items need for the lunch. Don't forget the bake table always clears fast and we really need more baking. Once again this year, no one will be able to purchase from the bake table before 11 a.m. This means a great selection to choose from for people attending our bazaar. Next time you are in, don't forget to buy some penny table tickets and double your chances of winning on the beautiful prizes, which will be on display at the Bazaar. Starting on Nov. 30, the movies will have a Christmas or holiday theme, starting with The Bishop's Wife, at 10 a.m. Our next social dinner will be the Christmas lunch at Blue Springs Golf Course on Dec 3. Everyone is looking forward to that. Tickets are on sale at the front desk. Thinking of tickets have you purchased yours for the beautiful painting by Maria Sallay? The winning tickets will be drawn at the Christmas lunch. SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) will be presenting a Seniors Awareness Seminar at the Acton Seniors Centre, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. The topics to be covered could include using your medication properly, the latest government programs available, and travel insurance. This year, Acton High School student Kaylee Kearns was the worthy recipient of the Acton Seniors Recreational Centre's award for the student achieving the most volunteer hours (over 100 hours). Kaylee wasn't able to attend the presentation due to mid-terms but will receive the award shortly. Edward Czuchnicki won the 50/50$70 one week, and then it was won for the third week in a row when Betty Holmes won-- she will have an extra $70 to spend on Christmas gifts this year.
