Performances will be held December 2 and 3, at the River Run Centre in Guelph. Laura Chiavegato and Delany Hassell, both from the Center Stage School for the Arts, will perform roles alongside the professional artists of Ballet Jorgen Canada. Laura, 13, danced with the troupe last year, and returns this year as Squirrel, dancing in the Friday, Dec. 3 performance. Delaney, 13, will dance the role of Dragonfly during the Thursday, Dec. 2 show. Both Laura and Delaney recently auditioned for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and have been accepted into the 2011 Summer Session, which serves as the second stage of the two-part audition process for the professional school. The Summer Session takes place at the RWB School in Winnipeg in July 2011. Ballet Jörgen Canada is Ontario's second largest dance company with 16 full-time dancers, and brings ballets to about 50 communities annually. This performance of The Nutcracker is set in a small rural community in Ontario, utilizing the Group of Seven paintings to frame the story. Much of the choreography is what could be described as neo-classical which is freer and flows more than strictly classical ballet.
