YOU AND YOUR PET Max and Mia`s yearning plea Our frustrated, sad residents have been at UCHS for many months and have not as yet found a home so they requested to write their own story...and who are we to argue? I am handsome Max and weigh in at 80 lb, and have a black coat. My littermate and constant companion is attractive Mia who is brown with a black saddle and she is a plump 110 lb. We are both healthy German Shepherd dogs seven years young. The Shelter staff have separated us in the last week and we are living in different kennels and although we do not show it outwardly this is breaking our hearts. They think that by separating us we will get used to being by ourselves, as no one wants us together. Don't people know that two bonded dogs who love each other are so easy and not so "in your face" with humans. We are praying that a family will take us together I am so worried that it is affecting Mia. I am a man so could handle it, wouldn't like it, but could handle it..not so gentle Mia ...I worry about my sister....I feel her anguish. We had a normal happy life with the same family living on a horse farm where we were comfortable being near the horses, but our family moved to the city and we were surrendered to UCHS months ago. We are both housebroken, we are tolerant with some dogs and have had "recorded" exposure to cats at the Shelter. We have lived with a teenager and had experience interacting with a nineyear-old in the past and passed with flying colours. We have medium energy, are good in car/crate and we enjoy demonstrating our knowledge of basic commands. The caregivers thing else will fall into place. We are told we are really endearing and my obsession with "my rock" that I gently pick up and display proudly to anyone watching gives the caregivers pleasure. I love to please and quickly respond when they ask "Where's your rock" to smiles and laughter... 25 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, December 2, 2010 Spumoni is more than an ice cream treat! tell people we are relaxed dogs, obedient, and my sister Mia is especially quiet. A word to the wise as German Shepherd dogs we get joy in chasing wildlife and practise herding and would be most content if we could find a lifestyle similar to that of the past with access to the outdoors on a farm/acreage but also being house dogs we would not be happy relegated to living in a barn. Bottom line: we are looking for love if we get that every- Our "Spumoni" is a three-year-old DSH (Domestic Short Hair) clothed in a brown and grey ticked tabby coat. Born into our Kitten Program in 2007...only to be surrendered to the Shelter in Sept. 2009 because the family claimed she was too shy for their needs and constantly hiding. What have we found? Spumoni is not an "in your face" feline, but is a lovely girl who has a quieter nature and is selfpossessed not needing a lot of attention... a perStories by Judith-Anne Kolu fect cat for a family who UCHS volunteer is not at home all the time. Spumoni would be fine with older well behaved children if they were the type that knew how to respect an animal's space and her needs for quiet time. Spumoni loves to lay in your lap and would do so for hours, but does not like being picked up and hauled about and would not do well in a high-energy preschool home. In summary, Spumoni is a really nice, low-key, regular feline often overlooked because she is a quieter lady, not forceful in getting noticed by prospective adopters. If you think Spumoni might be the feline for you call her at 519-8332287 or email adoptions@ uppercredit.com and most probably she will be in her treehouse waiting.
