Toronto's Darryl Bank won the 10.8-km feature race in a time of 37 minutes and 51 seconds, over a minute faster than the runner-up. As always, some of the runners were in a festive mood despite the soggy, slushy conditions, including this would-be Santa (below). Photos by Jon Borgstrom Town gives Wynne earful on roadways By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer The Town presented Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Minister Kathleen Wynne with a Christmas wish list of items during a recent one-on-one hour-long meeting. Wynne, who was in town Dec. 3 for an evening event, met with Mayor Rick Bonnette, several councillors and Town staff, in response to the Mayor's letter on the proposed MTO highways through Halton Hills, sent earlier this year. "We had an whole array of items to discuss," Bonnette told The Independent & Free Press. "I think it was a positive meeting for the minister... to meet some of the members of council on current transportation projects within Halton Hills and the region," said Kelly Baker, Wynne's communications advisor in a phone interview. The big topic of the day was the Province's proposed highway (Alternative 4.3) that would cut a swath through south Halton Hills, fragmenting the Town's prime agricultural land. Bonnette said Wynne was told the Province's insistence that this proposed highway be included in the Town's and Region's Official Plans map, without prior consultation and before environmental assessments are done was "inappropriate". Wynne did not make any commitment on this issue, but accepted a Town letter outlining the concerns.
