4 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,December 14, 2010 Tony Bischoff of Tire Discounters in Acton gave Marta Jurcic a set of winter tires after hers were stolen from her car two weeks ago while it was parked in the driveway of her parents' Metcalfe Cres. home in Georgetown. The thief not only stole the tires but put old worn ones on in their place. Photo by Ted Brown Tire theft has happy ending By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Marta Jurcic was feeling pretty down after someone stole the four new tires off her car a couple of weeks ago and was trying to figure out how she would come up with the money to replace them when an Acton tire store owner solved her problem. The tires were stolen Nov. 29 while Jurcic, of St. Thomas, was visiting her parents in Georgetown. The thief replaced her new tires with old bald tires and rims. After reading about Jurcic's plight in The Independent & Free Press, Tony Bischoff, owner of Tire Discounter of Acton, offered to replace the tires "free of charge to correct this injustice." "I would imagine that the deductible would be about what the tires were worth so it would be of no benefit to them to put it through insurance," said Bishoff. "Life is not fair at times and if we are able to help then why not do so." The Tire Discounter Group supplied the four new Infinity winter tires to Bischoff at cost and they were installed and balanced free of charge at Bischoff's shop. "I can't believe how much he did for me," said Jurcic, a single mom. "I'm absolutely shocked that someone would think of giving me brand new tires. I'm so thankful for people like him." She was hoping that the story that appeared in the Dec. 2 edition of the newspaper might spark someone to turn in the tire thief, and never thought that anyone would offer her tires. Bischoff, was not the only one who offered to help. Another man offered to give Jurcic four used tires. "I can't wait to do the same thing...to give back," said Jurcic.
