The Georgetown District High School graduate has received the Bell Scholarship from Mount Allison University. Valued at $48,000 over four years, it is the most prestigious award at the New Brunswick school. de Chastelain is studying arts but is also pursing her interests in science, as part of a chemistry research team on Saturday mornings. She is also involved in Leadership Mount Allison-- the university's signature leadership development program, the Choral and Celtic societies, and the Mount Allison Global Brigades team, which will be travelling to Honduras over the reading week, as a member of the medical brigades. In Georgetown de Chastelain was involved with highland dancing, the Gaudeamus Children's KYLIE Choir, piano, and worked part-time at a local chil- DE CHASTELAIN dren's bookstore. At GDHS, she was the captain of the school's debate team, and the leader/founder of the International Baccalaureate student league where she ran a series of fundraisers for Free the Children and Haiti relief. What's next for this young lady? "I'd really like to do graduate work abroad," said de Chastelain. "I'm very interested in some of Mount Allison's summer archaeology field school programs, as well as the summer exchange to India. I think that Mount Allison will provide me with the tools and resources to see these visions through, and I have no doubt that an undergrad degree from here will prepare me very well for future studies." de Chastelain is the daughter of Duncan and Debbie de Chastelain of Georgetown. --By Laura Dillman Ripley, special NOTICE OF MEETING 2011 BUDGET MEETING (Capital Budget & Capital Forecast) Budget Committee will be commencing Capital Budget and Capital Forecast deliberations on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Please note all delegations for Capital matters will be heard on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 .
