18 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, January 6, 2011 Acton and Georgetown communities each founded a scout troop in 1910, motivated by Lord Robert Baden Powell's opening of the CNE in Toronto that year. In celebration of 100 years of scouting in Halton Hills, the North Halton Gilwell Scout Group of 1st Acton, 1st Georgetown and 2nd and 4th Georgetown are inviting the entire town to Cedarvale Park in Georgetown on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Food, fun and something for everyone in the whole family will be happening. Come learn about the history of scouting in this area, view displays, participate in events, Celebration of 100 years of scouting: Please check your closets for memorabilia watch youth practising traditional scout craft and see what scouting is up to today. The Group is looking for anyone interested in helping with the planning of the event and for donations (or loans) of any Scouting memorabilia. Over 100 images will be presented in the Centre's Gallery between February 7-28. Awards Night is scheduled for Thursday, February 24,7-9 p.m. The adult categories have been split into 7 groups: 1) People; 2) Critters and Creatures; 3) Flowers & Foliage; 4) Objects & Abstracts; 5) Scenery; 6) Architecture; and 7) Creative. Both colour and monochrome images will be judged together in each category. A total of 12 images can be entered, with a maximum of four in your choice of category. The youth entries (aged 13-16 inclusive) can be either Open (including Creative) or People, with a maximum of sixcolour or monochrome entries. The children's sections remain unchanged. A maximum of three entries to be judged in two age groups either 8 and under or 9-12. Entries will be received between Jan. 24-30.
