"If we can shop around for sales that works out really well for us," said Humphreys. Both food banks have problems with people donating items that are close to their expiry date, or already expired. She said Acton Foodshare serves approximately 35 to 40 families each week, and each month distributes about 5,000 lbs. of food. Food donations can be dropped off during normal business hours at Sobey's, Giant Tiger, Prosperity One, The Roxy or Acton Foodshare, 352 Queen Street, Unit 6, Tuesdays between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (or by arrangement). Donations can be made to Georgetown Bread Basket at 55 Sinclair Ave., Suite 12 when it's open (Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to noon) or at bins in Georgetown grocery stores. Call 905-873-3368.
