Students' fashion show raises awareness about inequality By NEGAR MODIR Special to The Independent & Free Press Georgetown District High School hosted a fashion show supporting the "Because I Am A Girl" campaign recently. The hour-long show, put together in under two months by students, Negar Modir and Caitlyn Moses, had a turnout of approximately 100 people with more than $500 raised for the charity. The two dedicated their time to designing clothing as well as the administrative aspects of the show. Volunteering were: Carly MacCoubrey, Ashira Saluja, Sahar Saluja, Kaitlin Davis, and Emma Norton. The lights and sounds were put together by Justin Gilbert and the school's tech crew, while dances were performed by the school's dance club during one intermission and Amanda Ceniti sang during the second. Fringe Hair Salon in Georgetown donated its time to style the models' hair in outrageous fashion which matched the over-the-top clothing. Throughout the show, multiple themes were incorporated to help showcase the designers' creative capabilites-- for example dresses were made out of records, playing cards, garbage bags, and lollipops for the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle theme. Modir and Moses, both aspiring fashion students, hope that the show not only flaunted their creative abilities, but also raised awareness of the inequality between females and males around the globe. 7 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, January 18, 2011 HEATING & COOLING CLEAN FACE SAVE $ BIG SAVINGS!
