A survey, which offers three options, is available on Board website, www.hdsb.ca until Friday, Jan. 21. In January each year, the Halton District School Board sets up a committee to develop the following year's school calendar. This involves determining dates for Professional Activity days (PA Days) and Ministry of Education/Board designated holidays. The committee has started its work on the 2011-2012 school year calendar and would like community input regarding the December 2011 holiday break. Parents can have say on December break The three options are: · Early Dismissal option: The last day of school before the December holiday would be on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 and students would return to school on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012. · Late Dismissal option: The last day of school before the December holiday would be on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 and students would return to school on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012. · Split Week option: The last day of school before the December holiday would be on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 and students would return to school on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012. 354 Guelph St., Unit 21 More drunks on road last month The percentage of motorists arrested for drinking and driving on north Halton roads last month was more than triple that of December 2009, according to recentlyreleased RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) statistics. The percentage charged in the area-- which includes Milton, Acton and Georgetown-- also far exceeded numbers in both Burlington and Oakville, despite there being thousands of fewer checks. Police report 12 drivers being arrested as a result of RIDE spot checks after stopping about 3,500 drivers in north Halton last month. In December 2009, they charged 11 out of almost 12,000 motorists stopped. Meanwhile, police reported that Burlington had 17 arrests out of almost 20,000 checks in December and Oakville had 12 arrests out of roughly 8,500 stopped vehicles. Region-wide police nabbed 40 people on Halton roads during the December RIDE blitz. That's up from 32 the previous year, but the number of vehicles stopped is also up to 31,905 in December from 28,108 in 2009. Halton Police spokesperson Brian Carr said the number of cars stopped depends greatly on the availability of resources. "There's no rhyme or reason (to it)," he said, when asked why so many more cars were stopped in 2009. 905.877.1712 A TRUE 4 SEASON TIRE!!!
