YOU AND YOUR PET Tizzy tells you her story Hi I'm Tizzy, an attractive black lab/cross and I arrived at the Shelter as a "stray". It seems age is important and I have been pegged between 2-4 years old. It was obvious to all that I had been neglected; my skin was so very dry and those tiny biting insects were with me! I was placed on a special diet and endured medicated baths which relieved the itch and I am pleased to say my coat has now grown back and is healthy and glistening as it should be. One of our caregivers took a special "shine" to me and I am now in foster at her home where I live as a member of the family including two Jack Russells... and I have demonstrated that I do want to be the boss (what woman doesn't?). That said. I have met my match-- ever tried being dominant with those Jacks, they can hold their own. Foster mum feels that I should be the only dog in a new home. I think I would like to be "Queen" of my domain, as I thrive on attention and affection and often I really do not want to share my temporary parents. Foster Mum feels that my need to dominate and being distressed over sharing my food would disappear as an "only" because these dynamics would not come into play. Do I want someone after my food? No, because I have a voracious appetite and Foster Mum says I need portion control and limited treats or svelte, slim figure might disappear into a more rolly-polly silhouette (horrors). Having genes in play from the Lab side of me I need plenty of exercise, and would especially enjoy a family who love to run or jog with me in the great blue yonder. Foster mum has also noticed that I like my com- 5 Family Day Tuesday, February 15, 2011 Let Roxy rock your world Pet of the Month TIZZY fort, and they have been super in allowing me to recline on the furniture (nice comfy beds close to you would be an option I guess) if furniture lounging was not allowed. I also love to lie in laps when the family are watching TV as the warmth and comfort this gives me quiets my spirit and I feel "love". I especially like to demonstrate my "watch dog, family alert" skills which have been given an A+ as nothing gets past me. Another endearing thing is my typical "otter-type" tail of my Lab heritage, which I enjoy wagging like crazy when Mum talks to me and I am so very happy. Hoping you will see I am interesting, happy girl and come soon. Note: Although Tizzy is safe in Foster where she will remain until adopted, we want to showcase this lovely girl who is ready to proceed with her life. More insight on the lovely girl called Tizzy can be given through Tizzy's Foster Mum...Linda who can be reached at 905-702-8123 or contact Shelter 519-822-2287 or e-mail adoptions@ uppercredit.com Roxy with that little earnest face and "oh so pleased to meet you" attitude is an attractive lab/hound mix only three-yearsold. Black and tan with a tail that curls in a complete circle, she is our 35 lb high energy athlete. Surrendered in September, Roxy had enjoyed life as an "only" but following the arrival of a new canine family member things changed. Perhaps her needs as resident dog were not fully considered, jealousy probably took over and the decision was made to keep the new dog and Roxy was out of luck and out the door so to speak! Not wishing to stress her further in a multiple canine home we are looking for her to be an "only" where she would definitely excel as the "Queen of her Castle" safe in the knowledge that in her eyes she will not be replaced. Roxy, though wary of dogs in her domain, appears to be very accepting of cats, perhaps seeing them as no direct competition to her. Above all Roxy is a "people dog", enjoying life at home with you, is crate-trained ROXY Stories by JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Photos by Claudia Duijsens www.claudiaduijsens.com and loves to go out in the car. Roxy is housebroken, has her basic commands and for one of our walkers is the reigning favourite walking partner as she walks well and loves her exercise. Roxy will need a fenced yard, would benefit from more training to focus her energy and would be fabulous if her family wanted to participate with her in agility, flyball etc., which would be enormous fun for both. We know that in the right home with her trust restored, this action girl will show her quiet relaxed side which she does even at the Shelter. Roxy is a sweet girl who just needs a chance to rock your world. Call 519-8332287 or e-mail adoptions@uppercredit. com to meet her. Come soon.
