N. Friday morning. Donna Reid, who had a mild developmental disability, was walking across Mountainview Rd. N. on her way to work at Community Living North Halton's Horizon Packaging on Todd Road about 9:10 a.m. when she was hit by a southbound 2011 GM Sierra pickup truck near the centre of the road. Reid was severely injured and transported to Georgetown Hospital with no vital signs. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old Etobicoke man, was not injured. Charges are pending. Sgt. Paul Davies of Halton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit said the new truck from nearby Georgetown Chevrolet was being driven by the franchisee of a Mississauga rust proofing company to his shop to be rust proofed before it was to be delivered to the purchaser. Davies said police had "good co-operation" from the businesses in the area and the collision was caught on closed circuit television. Police have obtained a copy, which is now an "integral part of the investigation." Friday's fatal accident was one of three collisions that occurred in a bizarre 90 minutes on Mountainview Rd. Roughly 30 minutes before a woman was struck and killed on Mountainview Rd. N. at Todd Road, two cars collided at Comset Gate and Mountainview Rd. S., roughly a half kilometre south of Guelph St. At approximately 10:15 a.m. three vehicles-- a pickup truck and two cars-- were involved in a chain reaction fender-bender on Mountainview Rd. S., between Delrex Blvd. and Eden Place, as traffic backed up on Mountainview Rd. due to the previous collisions. There were no serious injuries reported.
