26 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, February 17, 2011 SUMMER FOOTBALL IS BACK!!! Acton Seniors Centre to hold AGM next week By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre The Acton Seniors Recreation Centre will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21 for Family Day. Hopefully many people will take the time to do something memorable with their children and grandchildren on this special day, whether it is walking, skating and tobogganing (providing the hot chocolate after?) or sharing a meal and memories together. *** The Annual General Meeting of the centre is on Wednesday, Feb. 23. If you are a member of the Seniors Centre please try to attend. *** Bev Jones, our fundraising committee chair, mentioned at the February board meeting that we will be unable to hold the Rockathon at Sobeys in the foreseeable future as the store is no longer open 24 hours a day. The Acton Seniors Centre appreciates the cooperation and assistance Sobeys has given us over the past six years enabling us to hold three Rockathons. This was one of our major fundraisers. The fundraising committee recommends we hold another G.S.T. (goods, services and talents) auction again this June. The last one was seven years ago and a great success. What is a G.S.T. auction? Articles will be offered for auction: Goods-- new items for your home, car, garden, etc.; Services-- e.g. gift certificates for spas, hairdressing salons, oil changes, etc. Talents-- e.g. making a special meal at your home or theirs, baking for a special event, babysitting or painting, cutting grass for the summer, or the use of a cottage for a weekend. The list could be endless. *** Twenty people have signed up for the dinner theatre at Mohawk on March 4. There is still room for a couple more people if you would like to add your name to the list and purchase a ticket. Fifteen seniors returned safe and sound after their trip to Valadero Cuba last week. We had a wonderful time, except for one mishap. Connie Fix's sister Jean Murphy (from Montreal) broke a bone in her foot while on a day excursion. She was very happy with the professional attention she received at the medical facility in Valadero. We all returned safe and sound to a snowy Acton. Everyone asked when are we going again? So I guess it was a successful trip. Tickets are on sale at the front desk for the Acton and Georgetown dance to be held at the Acton Legion on Friday, April 8. You don't have to be a member of the centre to join us in dancing to great music or enjoy watching and listening. 2011 REGISTRATION Saturday February 19th, 9:30am 6:00pm Georgetown Marketplace (Outside the Independent office) *Please bring photocopy copy of Birth Certificate* Cash or Cheque accepted (made to HHMFA) House League (Born 1999-2004) $325 A great introduction to the sport!
