ENTERTAINMENT Globe and GLT win four Thea awards at ACT-CO gala By SAM HANCOCK GLT member Georgetown Little Theatre Productions (GLT) and Georgetown Globe Musical Productions were well represented at the 2010/11 Association of Community Theatres-- Central Ontario (ACT-CO) Gala on April 2. The gala's highlight-- aside from the boisterous camaraderie of theatre folk-- were the annual Thea Awards celebrating professional-quality community theatre. GLT's production of Wait Until Dark was nominated for four drama category awards, with Cat Heaven winning Best Set Design, and Pam Curtis winning Best Costume Design. Ken Smith was CAT HEAVEN nominated for Best Lighting Design. GLT's second show, Bedtime Stories, was nominated for another four comedy category awards, winning Best MIKE EMSON Lighting Design for Mike Emson, who was also nominated for Sound Design both for this show and for Wait Until Dark. The entire company of Bedtime Stories was also nominated for two comedy adjudicator's awards: Cohesive Realization of the Director's Vision and Best Ensemble. Kathryn DeLory, currently directing GLT's upcoming production of Enchanted April (opening April 15 at Christ the King High School), directed Erin Community Theatre's production of Stepping Out, which won the comedy adjudicator's award for Best Ensemble. Globe's Mike Rainey, won for Best Lighting Design for a Musical for their fantastic production of Into the Woods. Be sure to catch their upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar opening May 6 at Christ The King High School. We're lucky to have these professional-quality theatre companies in our own backyard. With the recent closing of the John Elliot Theatre to accommodate the library and Cultural Centre renovations, it's even more important that Halton Hills and area residents show their support for local theatre. Cheaper than any show you can see in Toronto, better than what's on TV, and probably starring someone you know! GLT celebrates 50 seasons this year and Globe celebrates 30 years of musicals. 19 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, April 14, 2011 Globe takes on rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar By BOBBIE FLATT GLOBE member Georgetown Globe Musical Productions presents Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice's rock opera masterpiece Jesus Christ Superstar.
