Residents and community groups will scour the parks, ravines and roadsides of Halton Hills picking up litter and assorted debris. Free gloves and garbage bags are available from the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre located at 11620 Trafalgar Road (Georgetown), and also at participating McDonald's Halton Hills restaurants. Gloves and bags have been provided through the generosity of Superior Glove, Tim Hortons and McDonald's. We encourage all participating groups to register with the Town of Halton Hills. Vicky Garvey had 16 points and Sarah Wilson added 10 more in the win. Along the way, Halton Hills beat Markham MUMBA 50-33, Mississauga 38-26, Stoney Creek 50-35 and the Burlington Skyhawks 47-24 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the championship game. Both are members of the Bearcats' swim team, and were chosen for their performance at the Halton championship meet in Guelph. Barnes, competing in the 50m free and 100m breaststroke, was chosen for her personal best times of 38:19 and 1:28:19, respectively. Lobelio swam a 1:25 in the 100m backstroke, also her best-ever time. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Wayne Fang and Jacqueline Tanguay. The Rebel junior badminton team members had strong showings at the first tournament of the season at Christ the King this week. Grade 10 student Fang used a variety of smashes and deceptive drop shots to post a 4-0 record in boys' singes, while Tanguay also fared well on the court and her positive attitude is a big asset to the team. Christ the King Catholic High School Athletes of the Week are Mitchell Giroux and Rachelle Giroux. Both are members of the Jaguars' badminton team, with Mitchell qualifying for the Halton finals in the men's doubles, while his sister Rachelle qualified at the divisional competitions to move on to the Halton championships in the senior mixed doubles' division.
