By Peter Paz, Smart Commute Halton S mart Commute Halton is a free program funded by Halton Region and Metrolinx. Our mission is to help local employers and commuters explore different commute choices like carpooling, cycling and transit. Our goal is to ease gridlock, improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while making commutes less expensive and more enjoyable. Since 2007, Smart Commute Halton has helped several businesses in the community implement "smarter" alternatives to driving alone to work. We are always impressed with the number of employers who are truly committed to making a difference in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Smart Commute Halton is lucky to have the following member businesses participating in the Smart Commute program: Halton Region, Town of Milton, Town of Oakville, Town of Burlington, Town of Halton Hills, Morguard Investments of car travel on our local roadways. The Smart Commute program has also saved employees across the GTHA $14.5 million dollars in commuting costs since 2007.
