Site of new arenas currently a `blue ice-cube' By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer When the Town builds the two-pad addition onto the Mold-Masters SportsPlex, Ward 4 Councillor Ann Lawlor wants the Guelph St. frontage to be beautified at the same time. Lawlor spoke about her concern as council gave approval to the establishment of a joint staff-councillor steering committee to oversee the construction of the new arenas. "I'm not going to be putting in a bid to be on it, because I think all the jocks Beautify SportsPlex, councillor asks (councillors) have probably reserved a spot," said Lawlor, "and I don't include myself among that group." However, Lawlor wants the committee to consider when designing the multmillion dollar addition, its prominent location on the Town's main thoroughfare. "It's just a blue ice-cube (now)... it's a barn and doesn't enhance the street in any way. It's not even remotely attractive and the landscaping in front of it is uninspired," said Lawlor. She wants it to become a signature building, and volunteered her services to fundraise for this purpose. Halton Hills Arena Golf Classic 3 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, May 10, 2011 Glen Williams seeks own postal code Glen Williams wants its own postal code. Currently Canada Post's postal code software does not recognize the existence of Glen Williams and instead assigns Glen residents a Georgetown postal code. Glen residents, however, want their mailing addresses and postal codes to reflect their actual address within the hamlet of Glen Williams. "This was something the community has long wanted but didn't think was possible because we didn't have our own post office," said Ward 2 Councillor and Glen resident Joan Robson. "The post office has been very co-operative in this matter so I'm pleased to say it looks like something that's doable and again we will be able to address letters to residents of Glen Williams." Halton Hills town council has agreed to request Canada Post add Glen Williams as a valid community with its own postal code. Wards 1&2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville also requested that something similar be considered for the hamlet of Hornby by the Town's economic development committee. He noted that even though Hornby is now designated by the Town as urban, Canada Post's postal codes designate it as rural. The rural postal codes, he said, sometimes makes it difficult to receive courier service within the 401 Corridor. Cost: Single $100., Foursome $400.
