Justin Gilbert Justin is a student at Georgetown District High School who is passionate and excels in his work in the performing arts. He has numerous years of experience in performing arts stage management and always maintains a high level of quality in his work. He volunteers many hours to many different performances and has proven to be a natural leader, mentor and positive role model for his peers. Even dealing with stressful situations on and off stage, this individual demonstrates a positive and calm attitude due to his dedication to his work. Arielle Vetro Arielle is an active and diligent student at Christ the King Secondary School. She is the secretary for Student Council and an active member in both the junior and senior bands. This youth is a member of the Intermediate Reach Team and student Life Association within her school and has excelled in her academic studies and commitment to her school. In her spare time she teaches preschoolers ballet lessons and has a true passion for creative dance. summer Congratulations from at Christ the King Secondary School. The trio were important in the planning and delivery of a special concert at their school. The event was called Sonar2Voice and the purpose was to spread the word about marine biodiversity and for the preservation and protection of dolphins around the world. There was a guest speaker from the Earth Island Institute arranged and Seneca College is creating a documentary on the concert. These three youth demonstrated, passion for the cause, creativity, leadership, adversity, and determination to ensure the event was a success. Maeve Sharkey Maeve is a student at Christ the King Secondary School who demonstrates leadership and confidence through her community and school involvement. As an active member of student council and the arts community, this individual has a strong passion for international affairs and global justice. Through her excellence in academics and religion, this youth was nominated to attend a Global Awareness Conference in Washington D.C and will be attending an international relations and business course in India, China, and England this summer. Zac Gazdik Zac is a student at Georgetown District High School who has been nominated for inspiration. As an active member of the Maple Avenue Youth Group, he plans activities to keep youth in the community engaged and he encourages peers to help out in local food drives, to volunteer, or to become involved. This student recently travelled to Brazil to build a community centre for local residents. Along with his inspiring contributions to his church and community, this individual is involved in the Peer Assistance Program at GDHS and has a talent for Architectural Design where he entered the Halton Hills Technical Olympics with a proposal for a bus shelter for students at his high school. More on pg. 5 Dan Marshall and Kamaia Adamson These two award recipients are students at Christ the King Secondary School who volunteer their time in the Best Buddies Programs, a program for students with disabilities. These youth participate and assist participants in the program, planning trips and community outings for the participants and assist with the life skills program. Their inclusivity, compassion, dedication, and caring personality are essential for the success of the program but are natural characteristics for the youth. They have proven to be role models for their peers and the participants in the program as well as positive influences in our community. Michael Chong, M.P . In his community, this youth is a member of the Mayor's Youth Action Committee, he volunteers at the Willow Park Ecology Centre and is passionate about environmental initiatives and getting his peers involved. He is a member of the Volunteer Halton Youth Advisory Council, and he has been involved in many events such as fundraisers, environmental groups and the dance community. This youth has also received many awards that included municipal, champion for change, environmental, educational, and volunteer recognition. Maggie Connolly Youth Recognition Award-- Josh Lim Maggie Connolly was a Halton public heath nurse who was an inspirational and dedicated individual to the youth of Halton Hills. The award in her honour goes to Josh Lim, an individual who has proven to be a kind, motivated and determined individual inspiring his peers with his love and dedication to the musical arts. Josh participated in the Relay for Life at Brock University raising fund for research and in memory of his brother and aunt as well as the many brave and wonderful survivors in Josh's life. Josh is also a member of the Georgetown Children's Chorus where he not only performs with the choir but spent the last season volunteering on a weekly basis to assist the younger choir members. He is a music student studying voice, piano and composition, as well as studying guitar and theory. Josh as previously been chosen as the Student of Excellence for the Halton District School Board and not only excels at his love for music but also maintains honours in his academic studies. Josh is a unique individual who is able to maintain positive actions in and out of school, motivating others to treat each other with respect and encouraging them to make positive choices and reach their dreams.
