Regrets? I've got a few Robert Fitzpatrick says the world will end this Saturday at midnight and he should know. After all, the New York man has spent $140,000-- almost all of his life savings-- on 1,000 ads at bus shelters and on subway cars announcing the end of the world on May 21. "Global Earthquake: The Greatest Ever! Judgment Day May 21, 2011," the ads proclaim over a picture of Jerusalem at night and a clock on the verge of striking midnight. Now, Mr. Fitzpatrick may just the be latest in a long line of doomsday cultists who are a few fries short of a McHappy meal OR maybe, just maybe, he's got some inside info that's legit. If the latter's the case that leaves us barely more than day to get our affairs in order or to do things we always wanted to but never quite managed to find the time. So, if this big old bouncing ball in space we call home is really going to shake itself into oblivion before we even find out who wins the Stanley Cup this year, I thought I'd put together a list of things I regret not having done before judgment day struck. To wit: · I regret not buying the new Bowling for Soup CD · I regret not having cleaned out the basement (garage, closets, etc.) · I regret not changing my car's wiper blades · I regret not finding out who won Celebrity Apprentice · I regret not seeing our deck rebuilt after a windstorm blew it to smithereens a month ago · I regret not getting my income tax return (BIG TIME!) · I regret not being around to see if Dalton McGuinty can dull the voters into giving him another mandate · I regret not seeing the Toronto Maple Leafs win another Stanley Cup (Hell, it's unlikely they would have in my lifetime anyway) · I regret not finishing the latest issue of Sports Illustrated · I regret not figuring out how to 7 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, May 19, 2011 Vision 2000 Exclusive Bonus: Exclusive Cocktail Party, 3 bottles of wine per cabin and Pinnacle Grill dinner for 2! EXPLORE HAWAII AND SAVE! 16 Day Circle Hawaii Cruise Hawaii; and Lahaina, Hawaii John McGhie work our damn DVD player · I regret not seeing if Halton Hills ever got "The Big Pipe" · I regret not breaking 80 in golf (Okay, I had a 79 once but there's some doubt whether I took a four or five on one hole) · I regret not telling the guy I bought a new washing machine from this past week that his sales technique was lousy, his attitude sucked and if I didn't need a machine urgently I would have gone elsewhere. Come to think of it, if the world's ending what do I need a washing machine for? · I regret not buying wifey the $30,000 yellow diamond ring we saw in Pebble Beach six years ago. (Hey babe, if you can get there by midnight Friday, it's yours.) · I regret `borrowing' issue 122 of The Amazing Spider-Man from a pal ...in 1973... and not returning it · I regret not getting around to changing the cats' litter box · I regret not buying wifey a Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers flannel pajama set · I regret not buying Rusty the schnoodle a Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packer premium dog leash. I'm sure there a few other regrets I may have, but with time running out there are some things that need to be dealt with by tomorrow night. However, there is no way I'm cutting the lawn. That can wait. Until Saturday afternoon.
