12 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, June 2, 2011 YOUR FIREFIGHTERS SUPPORT Bradford man injured when trench collapses A 49-year-old Bradford man received non-life threatening injuries while he was working in a trench on the water main on Todd Rd. when dirt and gravel from the top of the excavation fell on top of him last Tuesday (May 24) afternoon. The trench was about 4.5 metres deep. The man was working in a trench box about 3:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. It took Halton Hills firefighters about an hour to get him out. The walls of the trench had to be shored up before they could attempt to rescue the man. The man, an employee of Devcon Inc., suffered two broken ribs and a contusion on his cheek. He was treated at Georgetown Hospital. The Ministry of Labour responded and issued a stop work order until the walls of the trench were supported.
